Galoot-Tools™ Announces Availability of DiamondSandpaper™

Atlanta, GA, September 13th 2007. Galoot-Tools™, the Atlanta, GA based manufacturer and distributor of innovative handtools for the discriminating woodworker announced the immediately availability of DiamondSandpaper™. "We are proud to introduce our innovative product to the US market," states Dr. Chris Scholz, president of Galoot-Tools™. "Our DiamondSandpaper™ is a significant improvement over existing products and helps us to solidify our market position as the premier provider of high-end hand tools."

According to the company DiamondSandpaper™ contains neither sand nor paper. The product consists of microscopic or even nanometer-size diamond particles coated to color-coded polyester film. Diamond is the hardest material known to men. Previously woodworkers used loose diamonds or diamond particles bonded to steel plates to sharpen ever-tougher cutting tools. According to Galoot-Tools™ loose diamond sharpening is a rather messy process using diamond dust of questionable uniformity; diamond steel plates are well known to loose their initial sharpness rapidly. DiamondSandpaper™ eliminates the frustration associated with other sharpening methods.

Galoot-Tools™ engineering department suggests to sharpen tools conventionally to about 4,000 grit and to use DiamondSandpaper™ for final polishing. The tough polymer backing of DiamondSandpaper™ gives it much longer useful lifetime than paper or cloth backed products; since the backing is only 3 mil thick it virtually eliminates digging-in and rounding over the edges. It usually takes only three to four swipes to go from an OK edge to a fabulous edge. “Our research shows that more than 85% of SWMBOs prefer to have projects finished in time. Galoot-Tool™â€™s is to enable galoots to live up to this expectationâ€, states Dr. Scholz.

DiamondSandpaper™ is offered in four grits with particle size from 6 μm (micrometer) to 500 nm (nanometer), or 1/20th to 1/240th the size of a human hair. Because the particle size is tightly controlled even the largest grit, nominally equivalent to a 4,000 grit waterstone, produces an edge that is at least equivalent to a 8,000 grit waterstone. The particle size of the finest DiamondSandpaper™ is about the same as the wavelength of light and can produce a virtually scratch free finish.

DiamondSandpaper™ seamlessly integrates into a ScarySharp work flow and should be used with a few drops of water as lubricant. If treated appropriately DiamondSandpaper™ outlasts conventional sandpaper by a large margin and does not require extensive flattening like conventional waterstones. The company however cautions that DiamondSandpaper™ may not be well suited for beginning woodworkers.

Galoot-Tools offers innovative Hand-Tools for the Discriminating Woodworker

Atlanta, GA, April 9th 2007. Today Galoot-Tools.com, a manufacturer and distributor of innovative handtools for the discriminating woodworker announced it's first line of products. "We are proud to introduce a new type of plane blades to the US market," stated Dr. Chris Scholz, president of Galoot-tools.com. "Previously, these type of blades were only available for high-end Japanese tools. We are opening up a new level of performance to the American woodworker."

According to Dr. Scholz the new blades are manufactured in China using traditional hand tools and 1000-year-old methods. "We have been searching to globe for a manufacturer that could meet our stringent quality requirements at acceptable price points. Our extensive testing showed that our blades outperform any blade currently on the market."

Key to the exceptional performance is the design of the blades. All blades are made of laminated steel blades with hardened insert. The blades come in three performance classes, ranging from a cost-competitive Economy Series to the highest performance Master Series blades. The thick blades are designed to fit Stanley #4 Smoothing planes and Stanley #5 Jackplanes or similar planes. A family of plane blades that fit user-made wooden planes is also offered. Other size blades, such as blades for Infill Planes are under development.

What's in the name? A galoot is an individual who prefers to use hand tools in preference to power tools. Many galoots spend numerous hours hunting for and restoring old tools that others would consider scrap metal. By replacing missing parts with shop made or purchased after-market parts, galoots lovingly restore old tools to levels of performance that matches and often exceeds the performance of the original tool. With ever increasing energy prices and environmental awareness, galoot woodworking tools are experiencing a renaissance for both professional and hobby woodworkers.
